Epi leather is the material with which Louis Vuitton proved it could make bags without a monogram too: that wave-grain texture embossed into calfskin was introduced in 1985, resists scratches and water better than any canvas, and ages without losing its shape. The Jasmin is the model that makes the best use of it - a clean structure, short double handles, and a zip closure - a bag designed to be carried by hand that stands upright on its own on a desk and, in black, needs no styling. It is no longer in production, and on the pre-owned market, black Epi bags in clean condition disappear quickly.
